The American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) Specification for Structural Steel Buildings (AISC 360) provides requirements for the design, fabrication, and erection of structural steel-framed buildings and buildings utilizing composites of structural steel and reinforced concrete. To keep requirements current, the specifications are updated roughly every 5 years. The newest edition, published in October 2022, represents the 100 year anniversary of the 1st specification, and it is dedicated to our own Professor Emeritus Theodore V. Galambos.
Galambos’ pivotal research and publications on the load and resistance
factor design (LRFD) method transformed the AISC Specification. In addition, his unparalleled commitment to sharing his knowledge, to teaching and men- toring several generations of young researchers, and to strong ethical stan- dards have made him one of the giants of his generation. His contributions have clearly had a lasting impact on the structural engineering profession.
To celebrate this dedication, CEGE hosted a seminar, “Getting Up-to-date with the 2022 AISC Specification for Structural Steel Buildings,” featuring Larry Kruth, Vice President of Engineering & Research for AISC, and Cynthia Duncan, Senior Director of Engineering at AISC. The seminar was followed by a special dedication presentation and reception honoring Ted Galambos. The event was graciously and generously sponsored by LeJeune Steel.
