Glass fiber reinforced polymer reinforcing bars
The use of glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) as reinforcing bars in concrete structures, has been standardized in American Concrete Institute (ACI) design guides, construction specifications, material specifications, and codes describing its use as internal reinforcement
for concrete. Concrete structures reinforced with GFRP bars will not corrode, making them ideal for use
in bridge decks and other structures where corrosion is of high concern. Research by CEGE faculty and students includes development of the reliability philosophy and resistance factors for flexure of GFRP reinforced beams and development of the expressions for the bond of GFRP bars to concrete.
