Seed funding establishes Advanced
Design Initiative Fund
Dr. Cynthia Arnold propels CEMS forward in new research directions.
 Peter Stahl and Cynthia Arnold
Dr. Cynthia Arnold, a member of the CEMS External Advisory Board, has provided critical philanthropic seed funding to launch the CEMS Advanced Design Initiative Fund. With this generous investment, Dr. Arnold has enabled CEMS to recruit
a postdoctoral fellow who will engage in fundamental research to design, develop and produce
named in honor of Cynthia’s late husband, which will feature industry leaders, government stakeholders, and academic researchers. The mission of the Stahl Advanced Design Forum is to foster collaboration and sharing of data science, artificial intelligence, and machine learning, and best practices to transform
the ways in which chemicals and materials are designed, developed, and produced. Three themes for collaboration will be emphasized: fundamental research projects; data frameworks and standards; and workforce development.
More details and a save-the-date for the inaugural Stahl Forum will be made available to CEMS alumni and friends in late 2022. To support the CEMS Advanced Design Initiative Fund and the department’s work in this emerging research area, please visit: z.umn.edu/ cems_adc
