Bryan W. Boudouris (PhD ChE ’09) was named the recipient of the 2021 John H. Dillon Medal in Polymer Physics from the American Physical Society “for fundamental insights connecting polymer structure with charge transport in free radical conducting polymers, organic electronics, and functional block copolymers.”
Boudouris is a Professor of Chemical Engineering in the Charles D. Davidson School of Chemical Engineering and a Professor of Chemistry (by courtesy) in the Department of Chemistry at Purdue University.
Previous recipients of the John H. Dillon Medal with connections to CEMS include: Thomas H. Epps, III (PhD ChE ’04) in 2016, CEMS Professor Mahesh Mahanthappa (CEMS post-doctoral fellow) in 2013, Nitash P. Balsara (CEMS post-doctoral fellow) in 1997, UMN Regents Professor Frank S. Bates in 1989, and former CEMS faculty member and department head Matthew Tirrell in 1987.

In Memoriam
Harold J. Andrews (ChE ’51) passed away on November 23, 2020. After receiving his degree, Harold was hired
by Metalloy Corporation, the predecessor of Lithium Corporation of America, which began Harold’s lifelong career focus on lithium. Harold was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Lithium Corporation of America in 1977. During his two decades leading Lithium Corporation, the company established facilities in Bromborough, England and Kobe, Japan to produce butyllithium and lithium metal. Harold worked to expand lithium operations in Bolivia, Argentina and Chile. When FMC Corporation bought Lithium Corporation of America, Harold continued to consult on both the scientific and business sides of the lithium business. Harold was a generous benefactor to CEMS.
Robert A. Kempe (ChE ’43) passed away on November 30, 2020.
John Koenig (ChE ’57) passed away on September 4, 2020.
William D. Olson (ChE ’58) passed away on December 17, 2020.
Roy P. Zeman (MetEng ’57) passed away on November 13, 2020.
    Maryam Khaleel (PhD ChE ’15)
For the seventh consecutive year, L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Middle East Regional Young Talents Program, in partnership with Khalifa University of Science and Technology, continues to recognize Arab female scientists from the GCC for their revolutionary researches in the fields of Life sciences, Physical sciences, Mathematics and Computer science.
CEMS alumna Maryam Khaleel (PhD ChE ’15) was
recently named one of three winners in the Post- doctorate Researchers category. Honored for her work on developing hierarchical porous materials from inorganic synthetic routes, specifically the house-of-cards assembly of Faujasite sheets and nano-sized Faujasite, Khaleel will also receive monetary support for her ongoing research on preparing hierarchical catalysts with tuned functionality and morphology for the one-pot production of chemicals from CO2 and petroleum. She is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering in the Petroleum Institute at Khalifa University of Science and Technology.
The regional program is part of L’Oréal-UNESCO’s global initiative that has recognized over 3,400 phenomenal researchers since its inception 22 years ago.
