About the Keynote Speaker
Heidi Roop, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Climate Science and Extension Specialist at the University of Minnesota She is also the Director of the Minnesota Climate Adaptation Partnership Her research and Extension programs combine cutting-edge climate science and effective science communication to increase the use and integration of climate change information in decision-making at a range of scales—from city and state to national and international levels Her forthcoming book, Every Climate Action Matters, explores everyday ways we can all contribute to collective and individual climate action Her climate science research takes her around the world where she participates in a range of projects from Antarctica and the mountains of New Zealand to the shores of Lake Superior In addition to her appointments at the University of Minnesota, she also is an Affiliate Assistant Professor in the School of Public Health at the University of Washington and serves as expert advisor to a range of organizations and agencies as they seek to build resilience to climate change
About the Student Speaker
To Amelia Hayden, there is nothing more important than serving others Her hope for speaking is not that you remember her biography and accomplishments, but instead that you are inspired to see how even the muddiest of journeys
has prepared you for your next steps in life. Amelia is from Sharon, Wisconsin and graduated from Big Foot High School Growing up, she was active in 4-H and FFA, which inspired her to major in Agricultural Education at the University
of Minnesota – Twin Cities As a university student, Amelia was active in the Agricultural Education, Communication and Marketing (AECM) Club and the Ag Business Club She served as President and Secretary of the AECM Club and represented the University as a Minnesota Teach Ag Ambassador These activities were fueled by many cups of black coffee brewed in Bailey Hall. After graduation, Amelia is pursuing a career related to agriculture education She is currently
a finalist for the 75th Alice in Dairyland, which is a full-time public relations ambassador representing Wisconsin agriculture. Her long-term career goal is
to teach high school agriculture and develop the next generation of agricultural leaders
