      A NOTE FROM
DEAN BUHR
Hello from CFANS—I hope you had a wonderful summer.
As you read this greeting,
our students, faculty, and staff are already several weeks into our 2023- 24 academic year and our campus is bustling with the energy of a new season, new research and learning, and new friendships.
This fall, we are delighted to welcome more than a dozen new faculty members who have joined CFANS over the past year, a number of whom started this month. Across departments, we have added an exceptional roster of individuals who bring expertise and exciting new perspectives across a variety of CFANS disciplines. With our firm focus on preparing our students to be the leaders of tomorrow, I couldn’t be more pleased to have these energetic and strong new faculty members here guiding the way.
On September 21, we celebrated National Teach Ag Day. In this
issue of Impact, you’ll meet faculty, alumni, and students involved in our Agricultural Education program. The demand for agriculture, food, and natural resources teachers has been growing exponentially in Minnesota
and across the country, and CFANS
is at the forefront of educating these future educators. This story also highlights alumna Liz Knutson, BS ’14 agricultural education, whose degree helped lead to a marketing career at Corteva Agriscience.
In addition, you’ll get a glimpse
into the Bell Museum’s biological specimens collection from the perspective of a CFANS undergraduate student, learn how fungi is a potential hero when it comes to fighting emerald ash borer beetles threatening trees in Minnesota and elsewhere, and more.
Thank you for your continued support of the CFANS mission to inspire minds, nourish people, and enhance the natural environment. The time, resources, and talent you share are changing the world, and we are very grateful. Enjoy the fall season!
Sincerely,
Brian Buhr
Dean, College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences
