learning in her work at Forest Carbon Works, a company centered around protecting forests and utilizing them to their full potential.
You’ll also meet graduate
student Hussain Alwael, who is studying applied plant sciences.
He was inspired to pursue plant biotechnology while helping his father with farm work as a youth
in Saudi Arabia, where he saw the disappearance of plant species due to drought caused by global warming.
Because of the generosity of donors and supporters like you, we are able to continue to open up new opportunities for students, as illustrated in a piece about a new teaching assistant position
in the Department of Entomology, which has dramatically increased undergraduate participation in the study of insects.

  Greetings from CFANS—I hope you are enjoying the spring season. May has been an especially
joyful month on campus, as we held our undergraduate and graduate commencement ceremonies in person for the first time since 2019. It was truly momentous to once again see our students marching to Pomp and Circumstance and happily holding their diplomas while friends, family, and faculty cheered them on.
