  A NOTE FROM
DEAN BUHR
Warm greetings from CFANS
— I hope you’ve had a lovely spring season and have made plans for some sunny relaxation and fun with family and friends this summer!
Here at CFANS, we’ve just wrapped up the joyful celebrations of our class of 2023. We had 345 undergraduate students graduate this spring, many of whom participated in the Twin Cities campus-wide degree conferral at Huntington Bank Stadium on May 13 and a wide variety of festive departmental celebrations on campus throughout the month. On May 6, we held our graduate student commencement event at the Ted Mann Concert Hall. We had 138 masters degree and PhD students this year.
I am so proud of each one of these students, and so grateful
for each one of you for supporting them and contributing to the bright future they are building for us all. This wonderful time of year always puts our CFANS goal of “teaching tomorrow’s leaders by putting students first” in a particularly special light as we send them out into the
world to tackle grand challenges with energy and determination. Thank you for your gifts of time, talent, and treasure that have helped position them for success.
I hope you’ll enjoy this issue of Impact, which highlights a variety
of CFANS education, research,
and outreach work in action. In particular, I think you’ll like learning about our recent CFANS Insights survey. We polled U.S. high school students about their career interests and were delighted to find out
that 90 percent want to pursue careers that make a difference in solving global challenges — and 37 percent are interested in careers in food, agriculture, natural resources, and the environment. Because of supporters like you, CFANS is well- positioned to continue to attract these motivated young leaders.
Sincerely,
Brian Buhr
