Frequently Asked Questions
DRESS FOR SUCCESS
Q: What is the difference between Business Professional and Business Casual?
Q: What should I wear to an Information Session?
Q: What do I wear when an employer requests that I fly to their company directly to interview?
Q: Can I dress business casual for an interview if I know their policy is business casual every day of the week?
 Business Casual examples:
• Khaki or chino pants
• Dress shirts without a tie
• Polo or golf shirts
• Skirts
• Sweater sets
• Casual blouses that are not low cut or revealing
Business Professional examples:
• Unmatched or lighter colored suits • Business dresses
• Patterned dress shirts
Business casual is normally expected, although some companies specify the dress code differently in TalentLink (this is very rare). Don’t forget to wear your nametag, pinned on the right side. You should bring a pen and a portfolio with notes and questions prepared in advance, several resumes on quality paper, and business cards.
You should wear business casual when traveling to an interview. However, if you’re flying in and going directly to the interview, wear your suit on the airplane. You should always carry-on your interview attire (do not check your suit with your luggage).
Q: What should I wear to an informational interview? Should I dress up or down?”
In general, business professional is the norm. You should bring a pen and a portfolio with notes and questions prepared in advance, as well as several resumes on quality paper. Also, don’t forget to bring business cards.
Always dress professionally for the first interview
with a company, regardless of their policies regarding
dress. Remember, you don’t have a job there yet. It is recommended that you only dress casually on the second interview if the company specifically requests that you dress casually. If you are interviewing with a start-up or tech company, you might want to consider less formal attire than a full business suit. When in doubt, don’t be afraid to ask a recruiter or recent alum who works at the company.
