Leadership
Our students are professional leaders. First in the nation to become full members of their state profes- sional association, our dental students comprise the 8th District Dental Society of The Minnesota Dental Association (MDA). They participate on association committees and its Board of Trustees, and they have voting privileges at the MDA House of Delegates.
Graduating dental students may be elected by the faculty to the Beta Beta chapter of the National Dental Honor Society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon. Graduating dental hygiene students may be elected to the Eta Chapter of the National Dental Hygiene Honor Society, Sigma Phi Alpha.
Getting involved
Looking to branch out and sharpen your leadership and community-building skills while in school? Look no further. Our students participate in a variety of organizations, clubs and committees that provide an introduction to professional life, help them shape the future of dentistry and give back to the Twin Cities community.
Our students are involved in organizations like
the American Student Dental Association, Hispanic Student Dental Association, Student National Dental Association, Association of American Public Health Dentistry and the Minnesota Student Research Group.
Volunteering
Students have plenty of opportunities to give back to the community while they receive their education. As a School of Dentistry learner, you can volunteer at Hope Dental Clinic, Union Gospel Mission in St. Paul, or the Phillips Neighborhood Clinic, serving diverse communities of uninsured or underinsured patients.
Each February, our students participate in Give
Kids a Smile, a statewide event coordinated by the Minnesota Dental Association providing free services to children from low-income families who do not have access to dental care. Each year, nearly 150 to 200 children come to Moos Tower as part of the event, which gives kids much-needed treatment and connects families to a home for regular oral health care. Students coordinate and run each year’s event at the School of Dentistry on a volunteer basis.
