To be considered for admission in to the Dental Hygiene program, applicants must have:
• Minimum of 3.0 cumulative GPA
• Minimum 2.8 prerequisite and science GPA
• Minimum C grade in all prerequisite courses
All applicants are required to complete 8 hours of shadowing by the time of the application, and a total of 16 hours by matriculation. Applicants to only the Dental Hygiene program should shadow dental hygienists exclusively. Applicants to both programs should have at least half of their shadowing hours completed with dental hygienists.

2. Biology (course must include a laboratory)
3. Chemistry (course must include a laboratory) 4. Composition
5. Psychology 6. Sociology 7. Physiology 8. Statistics
All applicants who graduated from high school in 1987 or later must have completed the University of Minnesota high school course preparation requirements:
• FouryearsofEnglish,withemphasisonwriting, including instruction in reading and speaking skills and in literary understanding and appreciation;
• Fouryearsofmathematics,includingoneyear each of elementary algebra, geometry, and intermediate algebra;
• Threeyearsofscience,includingoneyeareachof biological and physical science and including laboratory experience;
• Threeyearsofsocialstudies,includingoneyeareach
of geography (or a combination of courses incorporating geographic studies, e.g., world history, western civilization, Latin American studies, etc.) and U.S. history;
• Twoyearsofasinglesecondlanguage;and
• Oneyearofvisualand/orperformingarts,including instruction in the history and interpretation of the art form (e.g., theater arts, music, band, chorus, orchestra, drawing, painting, photography, graphic design, etc.).
All high school preparation requirements must be completed prior to entry into the Dental Hygiene program.
