The Maintenance, Buildings and Grounds team has had a challenging year working with the impact of COVID-19. We are required and have followed to the best of our ability all UMN and state guidelines and the changing restrictions and mandates. It has made this an unprecedented year. Our role is to work with all departments and new staff to keep the facilities and research in operation and running smoothly. We are also part of the Energy Hero program with the Austin Utilities to help reduce power usage when there is a peak alert day. Our department’s goals are to work as efficiently and expertly as possible, always. We look forward to all that is ahead with our new ED Dr. Robert Clarke and appreciate the support of our new Chief of Staff, Liz Fedie. Thanks to those who support The Hormel Institute, we have a beautiful facility and our team works hard to keep it that way.

The library serves as the information resource center for
The Hormel Institute. It provides print and online materials to support faculty and staff research as well as special projects. The collection consists of approximately 10,250 volumes
of bound journals and 2,900 volumes of books and serials. The subjects covered include chemistry, biology, biophysics, medicine, and electronics. Researchers also have access to the services and resources of the University of Minnesota Twin Cities Libraries, the 15th largest in North America by collection size. Books are delivered from the Twin Cities campus and are available for pickup in The Hormel Institute Library. Articles that are not available in electronic form are obtained through interlibrary loan.
