“The Austin Port Authority’s mission of economic
development and job creation supports the upgrades needed
for The Hormel Institute to continue to grow as world
leaders in biomedical and cancer research. By expanding
and improving on their existing area of expertise the MBiC
project will lead the region in bioimaging technology.”
Jerry McCarthy, President Austin Port Authority
“The Minnesota Bioimaging Center is an exciting
project, both for The Hormel Institute and for the
Austin area. The project will bring new jobs and bolster
business growth in Greater Minnesota, not to mention
the impact on the technology capabilities at The
Hormel Institute and the effects on their research.”
John Garry, President & CEO Development Corporation of Austin
As The Hormel Institute expands research and continues to generate significant biomedical discoveries to promote human health, plans are underway to develop the Minnesota Bioimaging Center (MBiC). MBiC will be a state-of-the-art center for biomolecular structure and function research that will serve the needs of research across Minnesota and our neighboring states. The Hormel Institute is the center of excellence for structural biology using the cutting edge Cryo-EM imaging technology. This plan will dramatically expand expertise at the Institute and across the region in the application of a new technology that won the Nobel prize in Chemistry.
MBiC will support current and future research at the Institute and as well as the scientists who are advancing The Hormel Institute’s mission to inspire discoveries that improve and extend human life.
