The mission of the Research Development office is to promote a culture of research excellence. We provide strategic research administration focused on bringing extramural research funding to The Hormel Institute
by developing and implementing strategies to increase institutional competitiveness. Our goal is to reduce the administrative burden for the scientists so they can focus on writing the research sections of their proposals.

Funding Opportunities & Proposal Development: We identify funding opportunities for research, work directly with the scientists to support grant proposal development, provide guidance with interpreting federal and university guidelines, and work with other institutions to facilitate collaborations.
Internal Grants Program: We partner with scientists to develop Requests for Proposals and manage internal funding competitions to award funds donated for research.
Training & Education Activities: We support a wide range of training development and education activities, including informational events on research funding opportunities, technology commercialization and intellectual property, and shared resources at the University of Minnesota.
Peer Review/Grant Editing Services: We connect researchers with peer review services that give them an opportunity to submit documents for internal peer review before external submission.
Librarian Services: We provide print and online materials to support faculty and staff researchers and other special projects.
