“Think about all that has changed in the eight decades since the Institute first started in 1942 as a 400 square foot lab in a horse stable. The Hormel Institute has become a global leader in research and preventative methods
for cancer and chronic diseases.”
US Senator Amy Klobuchar
                 80 YEARS
                THE PROGRESS
The Hormel Institute moved to its current location in 1960. The Institute tripled in size in 2008 and doubled again in size in 2016 and is home to some of the world’s most cutting- edge research technologies. That includes the Cryo Electron Microscope (Cryo-EM), one of the most powerful microscopes in the world. Plans are underway to develop the Minnesota Bioimaging Center (MBiC), which would make the Institute a regional leader and hub for this technology.
THE FUTURE
We are on a continued trajectory of progress that includes expanding our scope of innovative research, a growing impact on education with opportunities for all, and leading in cutting edge research technologies. We strive to be a strong community partner and to be a leader in workplace inclusivity in our region. Over the next few years, The Hormel Institute will broaden its impact through innovative, world class research in its quest to improve human health.
“I have really enjoyed learning about the Hormel Institute over the last two years. All the medical research they have done is incredible, and I look forward to seeing this important work continue for years to come. As they continue work on their Minnesota Bioimaging Center and collaborate with other organizations, I know we will see groundbreaking results from this invaluable part of our community. I look forward to working with them over the coming years to advance their mission: “to further scientific knowledge and share that knowledge with the world!”
