 Community Outreach and Education
Kelly Vincelette, MEd / Manager
The Community Outreach and Education department works to identify community needs, expand education programs and internships, and make The Hormel Institute a strong partner in the community. This
year, we formed a Community Advisory Board, hosted 15 undergraduate interns,
and started our first clinical trial open to the community. Our goals for the upcoming year are to establish new STEM programming in K-12 schools, develop a mentorship program for students interested in science-related careers, and create health and wellbeing programming for the community.
Marketing and Communications
Raquel Hellman / Manager
The Marketing and Communications Department works to share the important research happening at The Hormel Institute with the community, region, and beyond. This year, we implemented two monthly newsletters to ensure our donors, supporters, partners, faculty, and staff are all up to date with
the latest research, news, and events happening at the Institute. We are embarking on a marketing and communications strategic planning process that will help us best tell the Institute’s unique story and secure our place as a pillar of the community and leader in biomedical research..
Development and External Relations
Gail Dennison MA, CFRE / Director
The Development and External Relations Department has
an ongoing goal to gain new partners, advocates, and collaborators to raise support and connections to help grow The Hormel Institute into an even higher achieving biomedical research center. Thanks to generous donors, this year, we developed more than $4 million in gifts supporting cancer and biomedical research for the Institute. We worked with major agriculture industry leaders to fund phase two of the Biofuels Research Project. We advanced the Minnesota Bioimaging Center through lobbying efforts with elected officials and external collaborators, and established two new funds to support our strategic goals in education and biofuels research. Our work is to share and connect The Hormel Institute with external stakeholders, collaborators, partners, and donors who share and want to advance our vision of inspiring discoveries that improve and extend human life.
