INTEGRATIVE BIOLOGY & PHYSIOLOGYfocusUPSTREAM!IBP faculty, students and staff have garnered a well-earned reputation of taking on difficult challenges - and succeeding! Perhaps inspired by the legendary Dr. Maurice Visscher%u2019s admonitions %u2013 %u201conly dead fish swim downstream,%u201d IBP seems to gravitate to challenges and, even when facing strong currents, vigorously swims %u201cupstream.%u201d In this light, there is much to celebrate and to think positive about the many opportunities laying ahead for IBP and the medical school. Some highlights are below/and enclosed.Promotions: We are proud of the successes of our faculty and highlight herein three faculty promotions: Dr. Emilyn Alejandro promoted to full professor, Dr. Vince Barnettpromoted to Associate Professor, and Dr. Jesse Williams, promoted to Associate professor. These are tremendous achievements by our faculty. Congratulations Emilyn, Vince and Jesse!New Faculty: We are excited to welcome two new outstanding faculty to the IBP team this year. Dr. Frank Duca joins us from the University of Arizona as Associate Professor, and Dr. Anthony (Tony) Verkerke from Harvard joins the department as an Assistant Professor. Both Frank and Tony bring outstanding skill in the mechanisms regulating metabolism relevant to disease, diet, aging and the environment. Welcome aboard Frank and Tony!Speaking of great achievements, Dr. Lisa Anderson was inducted into the Academy for Excellence in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning at the University of Minnesota. The Academy for Excellence in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning recognizes faculty who have demonstrated exceptional scholarly contributions to advance learning in their schools and across academic programs in the University of Minnesota.
