The Minnesota Justice Foundation (MJF) was founded in 1982 by University of Minnesota law students concerned about the decreasing availability of legal services for low- income Minnesotans. MJF has grown over the past 39 years to five staff, twenty-seven board members, offices in all of Minnesota’s law schools (Mitchell Hamline School of Law, University of St. Thomas School of Law, and University of Minnesota Law School), and three active student chapters; as well as partnerships with private attorneys and law firms, state and federal bar associations and more than 130 participating community organizations, poverty law centers, state government offices and legislators.
MJF strives for justice by creating opportunities for law students to perform public interest and pro bono legal services. MJF’s goals are to help meet the legal needs of low- income Minnesotans; to provide law students with practical experience and opportunities to work in public interest and poverty law; and to build an ethic of pro bono service in the legal community and among law students.
