  Department Head Update
Regions Emergency Department 2020: Health Equity, Community, Wellness, Mission and Vision. Regions Emergency Department has risen to the challenge in so many ways this year. Set on solid foundation built on patient centered care we have focused this year on advancing health equity and working with our community to surge matching the changing health needs of our patients.
Through a very generous grant from the Fred C. and Katherine C. Andersen Foundation we have finalized the expansion of our emergency department to include an additional four state of the art resuscitation/trauma rooms and nine treatment spaces. We are excited to have a compliment of radiology services including CT inside the department.
Our faculty remain academically active in Operations, Quality, Education, EMS, and Toxicology. Our Critical Care Research Center faculty have been actively enrolling patients in COVID-19 vaccine and treatment trials. The University of Minnesota Department of Emergency Medicine promoted Bjorn Peterson, MD (’12) to Associate Professor. We are very proud of Dr. Felix Ankel. His distinguished career was recognized by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons for remarkable innovation, global thought leadership and ethical humanism as the 2020 International Medical Educator of the Year.
The future remains bright. Regions Emergency Department will remain focused on health equity, patient experience and affordability of patient care as we enter 2021.
