INTERNATIONAL STUDENT AND SCHOLAR SERVICES (ISSS)
After you confirm your enrollment and submit your Undergraduate New Student I-20 Request form, you will receive the International Student Pre-Arrival Guide from the University’s International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) office. Staff members in ISSS will assist you as you prepare to arrive on campus, and they will work with you after your arrival in Minnesota. If you have questions in the meantime, please visit ISSS’s website: isss.umn.edu/new or contact them at isssnew@umn.edu.
ORIENTATION FOR NEW STUDENTS
International freshmen must complete both international student orientation and freshman orientation.
International Student Online Preparation Course
Prior to arrival, all new international students are required to complete the International Student Preparation Course. This program is the first step in completing new international student orientation requirements, and it will help you prepare for your arrival at the University. Visit isss.umn.edu/new to begin the course.
Upon arrival, you should complete the MyISSS Document Check. Once on campus, you are required to attend the ISSS Check-in and Welcome Session. Review the ISSS New Student Information at isss.umn.edu/new.
Freshman Orientation: New Student Checklist
Freshman Orientation is required for all new first-year students. Once you have confirmed your enrollment, you will receive information from your college about completing your New Student Checklist.
The New Student Checklist is an interactive, online checklist allowing students to complete the “Tell us about yourself” survey, sign up
for orientation dates, and take any required placement exams. Depending on your college, you may need to take a placement test for math, chemistry, and/or a second language to help us determine the best starting point for your college curriculum.
For more information, visit Orientation & Transition Experiences at z.umn.edu/ IncomingFreshmanOrientation.
Please note: In-person Orientation activities were shifted to an online format due to COVID-19 safety measures for fall 2021. The University of Minnesota will continue to monitor the situation for fall 2022 and communicate a plan when available.
