DEAR BELL FRIENDS –
The last year has truly been a year of growth and transition for the Bell Museum, and
one for myself as well. Heading into this new year, I’m thrilled to write to you as the new
Executive Director of the Bell Museum. For the last six years as the director of public
engagement and science learning, I’ve watched the Bell grow as we developed new
exhibitions, planetarium shows, and on-site and virtual programs for youth, adult, and
family audiences. I look forward to leading the Bell as we boldly go into the future.
My role is not the only one that has changed over the last year. Throughout this report
you’ll be introduced to several new key staff members, from a new American Indian
Initiatives Education Specialist to new curatorial staff of our vital research collections.
We’ve introduced new programs that bring science and nature to a wider audience
like Girl Scouts and elementary school students in Greater Minnesota.
One of the tasks I’m most excited to continue as director is implementing our 2023-27
strategic plan. I want to thank the over 2,000 key stakeholders that participated in devel-
oping our strategic plan this year. It was so exciting to see such alignment and synergy
both with where the Bell is currently a leader and where we want to see the Bell go in
the future. The goals, which you can see to the left, will take the Bell to new heights.
And, of course, all of this wouldn’t be possible with-
out donors and committed community members like
you. Thank you for your continued support of the Bell
Museum and for igniting and sustaining curiosity for
nature and the universe.
With gratitude,
HOLLY MENNINGER, Ph.D.
Executive Director, Bell Museum
University of Minnesota
