We are proud to announce that henceforth, space 207CC within the Civil Engineering Building, shall be known as the Charles Fairhurst Rotunda. Professor Emeritus Charles Fair- hurst was department head from 1972 to 1987. During his tenure, Fairhurst successfully advocated at the University and with the Minnesota Legislature to construct the Civil Engi- neering Building, our department’s first permanent home, which opened in 1983 and was honored with an award for its pioneering use of underground space. Charles Fairhurst dedicated his entire career to the University of Minnesota,
so it is fitting that we dedicate an important part of the Civil Engineering Building in his honor. A dedication celebration was held on Friday, August 26.
