10 YEARS OF IMPACT: THE 3M/COLEMAN FAMILY FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP
The 3M/Coleman Family Foun- dation Scholarship was started by CEGE alumnus H. Richard (Dick) Coleman and his wife Faith Coleman. Dick Coleman (BCE, 1973) worked full-time for 3M while pursuing his Civil Engineering degree at UMN. In gratitude for the tuition and other support 3M provided to Coleman during his time as an engi- neering student, the family decided to include 3M’s name in the title of the scholarship. This scholarship is among the most generous multi-year

scholarships the college provides
to students in CEGE. In the past 10 years, more than 100 awards totaling nearly $470,000 have benefited CEGE students. Many students receive this scholarship for all four of their years
at UMN. Such support has made a huge impact, helping CEGE to attract bright and able undergraduates. The support allows students to focus more deeply on their studies, get hands-on research experiences in laboratories, take internships, and get involved with student organizations.
This year the 3M/Coleman Family Foundation Scholarship reached two significant milestones—
10 years and more than 100 scholarship awards!
“I WOULD LIKE TO ONCE AGAIN THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT IN ACHIEVING MY GOALS HERE AT THE U. KNOWING THAT YOU HAVE FAITH AND BELIEF IN MY EDUCATION AND ACHIEVEMENT OF MY ULTIMATE GOAL OF DESIGNING A BRIDGE OR STRUC- TURE THAT I CAN BE PROUD TO LEAVE MY NAME ON IS THE MOST MOTIVATING FEELING. I AM FOREVER GRATEFUL FOR THE OPPORTUNITIES THIS SCHOLAR- SHIP ALLOWS ME TO PURSUE, AND I HOPE I CAN PAY IT FORWARD.”
— Kennan Miller (2020 recipient)
“THANK YOU VERY MUCH AGAIN FOR YOUR GENER- OUS SCHOLARSHIP. I ALSO WANT TO THANK YOU, MR. COLEMAN, FOR TAKING THE TIME TO GET TO KNOW US STUDENTS THAT YOU HAVE HELPED SO GREATLY. I HAVE REALLY ENJOYED LEARNING MORE ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE AS A STUDENT AND HOW YOUR EDUCATION SHAPED YOU. I AM ALSO VERY APPRECIATIVE FOR YOUR SUPPORT IN MAKING SURE I GET THE MOST OUT OF MY EDUCATION HERE AT THE UNIVERSITY FOR THE LAST FOUR YEARS.”
