“I wish to congratulate the University
of Minnesota ASCE Student Chapter on the occasion of its 100th anniversa- ry! As students in civil, environmental, and geo- engineering, you may not realize how important a role you play in ASCE and the future of your chosen profession. Student Chapters are a vital part of ASCE.ASCE values your
input and trusts that you will consider continuing your member- ship in ASCE following your graduation. ASCE provides you many opportunities, not only technical knowledge, but also knowledge for your personal growth and making of life-long friendships. Many of you will meet other students that share your technical and pro- fessional interests, and quite possibly, personal interests as well. The knowledge and friendships you develop through ASCE can prepare you to develop as better engineers and citizens.ASCE provides a great path to professional networking to enhance your career.”

SELECT ACTIVITIES
In ASCE, students support one another through tutoring groups, social events, and professional networking. Here are some examples of student activities in recent years.
2019. The UMN Concrete Canoe team placed first overall in the regional competition and went on to compete in the national competition in Florida in June. Co-captains were Joey Hynes and Samantha Prince. Samantha Youngkin won a second
place prize for the team in the Mead Paper Competition (which was established in 1924). In 2014, the CEGE Concrete Canoe Team placed 2nd in the ASCE Midwest Regional Concrete Canoe Competition.
2019. Student officers study in the Rosene Room for the ASCE Student Chapter (named in 2006). Once when asked to what he owed his success, Robert Rosene (BCE 1945, MS 1948) said, “To be involved...to be active in many professional and technical organizations, and they all add up.”

The University of Minnesota ASCE Student Chapter (UMN ASCE) is dedicated to connecting students and professional engineers. The association benefits by cultivating future members and offering current members opportunities to volunteer or men- tor. University programs gain industry input from prac- ticing professionals. And most importantly, students benefit through greater professional preparation.
