Biographical Information
Jean K. Quam
Jean K. Quam has served as dean since fall 2009. She came to the University
of Minnesota in 1980, when she joined the School of Social Work as a faculty member and served as the school’s director from 1991 to 2006. In 2005-06,
she co-chaired a University-wide task force that helped to develop the new College of Education and Human Development, which now includes the former CEHD, General College, and the College of Human Ecology (where the School of Social Work was housed). She earned a PhD in social work at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and an MSW from the University of Nebraska. Trained as a gerontologist, she conducts research on marginalized elderly, in areas of serious and persistent mental illness, and sexuality and aging. She is the author of three books and many publications and presentations.
Kendall J. Powell
Ken Powell is the former chairman and chief executive officer of General Mills, where he served in a variety of positions since 1979. Powell spent more than a third of his career overseas. He serves on the board of directors for Medtronic, the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, and Partners in Food Solutions, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping start-up food companies in Africa. Powell received a bachelor of arts degree in biology from Harvard and an MBA from Stanford University. Powell lives in Golden Valley and his wife and two adult daughters all are proud to have degrees from the University of Minnesota.
