                              GIVING MATTERS
An amplifying effect
New matching gift honors Chris Macosko, professor emeritus.
For more than a century, CEMS faculty have inspired and educated generations of students and defined this department’s unique legacy of excellence. Today, a generous friend of CEMS aims to inspire their fellow alumni to invest in students while also honoring Chris Macosko, professor emeritus.
All gifts of up to $50,000 made to the Macosko Fellowship before December 31, 2023, will be doubled thanks to this new dollar for dollar matching gift commitment.
The one-year matching gift funds are a meaningful tribute to Professor Macosko and the tremendous impact he made on generations of CEMS undergraduate and graduate students throughout his 48-year faculty career, during which he advised more than 130 PhD students and made a lasting legacy on the lives of students, post- doctoral fellows, and faculty from across the globe.
The resulting impact of this one-year matching gift opportunity will contribute an additional $100,000 to the Chris and Kathleen Macosko Fellowship. Please consider doubling the impact of your generosity to CEMS by investing in the Macosko Fellowship in 2023!

Chris Macosko was named the 2023 Charles Goodyear Medalist for his extensive and groundbreaking
work in developing basic relations for crosslinking polymerization. He has conducted pioneering work in the areas of the growth of molecular weight, branching, crosslink network formation, crosslink density, swelling and sol fraction.
Macosko did seminal research on reaction injection molding. He was co-inventor of the Rheometris Mechanical Spectrometer and went on to help develop the ARES rheometer, which are vital tools in the rubber industry. His rheology textbook is widely used.
The Charles Goodyear Medal is the most prestigious award given by the Rubber Division of the American Chemical Society (ACS) and was established in 1941 to perpetuate the memory of Charles Goodyear as the discoverer of the vulcanization of rubber.
