Career Fairs and Conferences
NETWORKING
Career fairs and conferences provide plentiful opportunities for networking and self-promotion. Examples of popular career fairs for students include the annual conferences for affinity associations such as National Black MBA Association (NBMBAA), Reaching Out (ROMBA), Vets Conference, and others. Please note that the conferences listed above are not limited to their named population; all students are welcome to attend.

PREPARE
in advance
2 EXECUTE well
It is important that you follow all the rules of professional conduct as you represent yourself to employers at the career fair. Be well-groomed, on time, engaging, and enthusiastic.
3
  • Be aware of upcoming conferences and their associated costs and deadlines. Many application and registration deadlines are toward the end of summer. Be sure to note any application deadlines so you can apply for career fair positions and pre-arrange interviews where possible.
• Thoroughly research the employers that will be attending
the event. Prioritize the people with whom you want to engage. You may not have the time to reach everyone, so be sure you use your time wisely.
• Talk to alumni in advance of the career fair. You can learn about their experiences at these fairs as well as their employers. Any networking you can do before you arrive will only benefit you as you can use the conference as an opportunity to strengthen existing relationships.
• Update your resume.
• Refine your positioning statement
• Read up on current events in your target industries/companies.
WHAT
to bring?
 • Portfolio with resumes • Nametag
• Business cards
• Pen
• Professional bag • Water and mints
• Be strategic—don't go to your first choice company first. Practice on one or two other companies as a warm-up.
• Be open to new companies.
4
• Arrive early.
