Welcome Letter
Greetings from the Graduate Business Career Center!
Welcome to Carlson! We are so excited you are here and look forward to working with you on your career search and professional development. Taking the initiative to commit to a graduate degree in business is a huge step in your professional journey. The Graduate Business Career Center includes a team of over a dozen professionals who are here to assist you in exploring the right post-graduation options for you.
Our office is composed of three teams. The Coaching Team works directly with you on your career search through 1:1 appointments, workshops, and print material (including this career guide). They are experts in helping you identify your strengths and interests and how that translates into the workforce. The Business Development Team works directly with employers, bringing them on campus to engage with you, reaching out to potential new employers to share how smart and driven Carlson students are, and ensuring our scope of employment opportunities includes local companies and national opportunities. Finally, our Events and Operations Team ensures that we create meaningful events
for you (over 200 per year!), provide excellent customer service, and accurately track all of our employment data to share with current and prospective students and alumni.
We have created this guide to help you in your career search. There are many opportunities available
to you through Carlson and beyond. Our hope is that this guide will help you navigate the job search process from day one, both here on campus and throughout your time at Carlson. We have divided
it into chapters based on key job search functions and we have utilized our experience to distill the information into manageable content for you to absorb and apply. We also call out and highlight key links or resources that we encourage you to read.
As you launch your career search, keep your focus on why you came to Carlson and why you committed to continuing your education. You likely came back to school to ensure you found a career that played to your strengths and interests, gave you opportunity and options, and ultimately makes you happy. What makes you happy is not necessarily the same as what brings your classmates joy and passion.
Stay true to yourself and explore all that Carlson has to offer.
Good luck and congratulations on this new adventure!
Sincerely,
Maggie Tomas
