First Paragraph: Indicate why you are writing, including the specific position (and job number if from TalentLink or company website), or the type of work you are applying for and how you learned of the opening (GBCC, TalentLink, LinkedIn, referral (using specific names), etc.). Explain why you are interested in the position and the organization, and highlight your company research.
Middle Paragraph(s): Emphasize skills or abilities you have that relate to the position for which you are applying. Read the job description to identify three to four relevant skills and use this space to link specific experiences to those skills. Use qualifications from your academic background, work, and volunteer or student organization experience to prove that your skills match the position requirements. This middle section can be two to four short paragraphs highlighting each skill.
Final Paragraph: Refer the reader to your enclosed resume and reiterate your interest. Indicate your desire for a personal interview and recap what you would bring to the position. Close your letter with a statement of why you should be considered for this opportunity and end with confidence. Finally, show your appreciation and end in a way which encourages a response.
