ACADEMIC LIFE: OPPORTUNITIES
American Indian Learning
Resource Center (AILRC)
The AILRC provides campus-wide student support services to assist American Indian and Alaska Native student populations in succeeding at UMD.
The center provides a multitude of resources for students including a computer lab, lounge, study room, and an extensive culturally specific library.
The Mishoomis Collection library is a selection of remarkable resources for learning about Native American history and heritage.
Through cultural, academic, and social components, the staff are here to assist and empower students in their academic career.

Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP)
UROP affords undergraduates a unique educational experience of collaborating with a faculty mentor on the design and implementation of a research project. UROP offers financial awards for research, scholarly, or creative projects undertaken in partnership with a faculty member.
UROP adds a new dimension to
the undergraduate experience and encourages students to conduct research and pursue academic interests outside of their regular courses by employing them to work on special projects. UMD has UROP projects happening in departments all over campus, not just in the sciences.
You are an important member of UMD’s academic community, so getting involved in research is a great path to discovery.
