Learn about two of our core mechanical engineering courses where students learn the skills they need to design the next groundbreaking invention.
ME 4053: Mechanical Engineering Modeling
This is the only course of its kind in any ME curriculum nationwide.
The course pulls together all the foundational work that students have learned in sensors/controls, design and manufacturing, and the thermal sciences. There is no single textbook. Problems are posed by industry, and instructors lead students through the process of solving open-ended design problems.
The course focuses on:
1. Modeling complex, multi-disciplinary mechanical engineering problems by identifying critical elements of a problem.
2. Design and development of analysis tools using analytical and numerical techniques. 3. Developing optimized solutions/designs to problems/challenges.
ME 4053 is team taught by one instructor with machine design expertise and one with thermal sciences expertise.
