STRATEGIC PLAN 2027
Message from Department Head
Thank you for taking some time to review our Department of Pediatrics Strategic Plan 2027. We
are excited about this plan and eager to take on the challenges we have outlined throughout the following pages. When we undertook this effort, we first went back to the basics of mission and vision. Here you will find an updated and expanded mission statement for the Department as well as a focused vision of who we are and to what we aspire.
It has now been almost ten years since our 2013 Plan: 2020 Vision was created. That foundational work has provided direction over the years and helped guide
our investments and decisions. The new plan builds on our foundation, specifically linking strategies to goals and naming the responsible leaders for those strategies.
The pages that follow represent the work of scores of our faculty and staff as well as the input of our trainees and external stakeholders, both here at the University of Minnesota and in our community. I specifically want to call out the members of our LEAD cohort who added this work to their already busy clinical, research and teaching undertakings. I also want to call out and say thank you to Dr. Michael Pitt, Associate Chair of Faculty Development and Strategic Planning. Work like this needs leadership and
Dr. Pitt’s creativity, attention to detail and ability to see things from many sides has been immensely important.
Finally, this plan is ours – all of ours. Each of us will have a role in its realization and refinement over
the coming years. Please take some time to read it, find areas where you may want to be more engaged, and reach out to me or one of our vice chairs to join us in achieving our vision.
