 LETTER FROM THE DEPARTMENT HEAD
Dear Colleagues and Friends,
I am pleased to present a few highlights from 2019 for the Department of Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology (ECP). 2019 was a very respectable year in terms of productivity of research, teaching, and service by a fully staffed department - Katherine Goffin was hired as the Front Desk Associate in July 2019 and immediately got to work on planning the 2020 Pharmacogenomics Conference.
The effort and commitment we’ve made to ECP over the last 8 years are reflected in the positive growth of several key research metrics, including:
● the continued increase of new sponsored awards increasing the annual total over $4.5 million
● a 6% increase in faculty salary offset by sponsored projects over the previous year
● double-digit percentage growth of peer-reviewed articles published by ECP faculty year-over-year for
the past four years
These statistics and the stable, consistent record of our teaching and service endeavors reflect the high caliber faculty, staff, and students dedicated to ECP. The cooperative and collaborative culture we have established supports our thriving graduate program, which is an important element of our outward-facing success, setting a high benchmark relative to our peer departments (within colleges of pharmacy) across the country.
Please review this snapshot of our activities over the course of the year. Note that financial data is reported by fiscal year (2019: July 2018-June 2019). All other data uses the calendar year. These parameters will be the new guidelines for future annual reports.
With warm regards,
Robert J. Straka Department Head
