P. 2

 From the Director
Kurt Isenberger, MD (Department Head) and Jen Moberg (Nursing Director) have done a phenomenal job managing an ED during year two of a global pandemic. They are always looking out for the best interests of the people
that work in our ED as well as the patients we serve. Over the past year they were able to flex some of our team to help work in the ICUs where help was needed, and they have successfully added a few new patient care pods to our ED for some much needed additional patient care space.
Our physician faculty continue to not only take great care of patients, but also teach, supervise and give feedback to our medical students and residents. It is an honor for me to read the evaluations they get from our residents each year
highlighting their commitment to outstanding patient care and education, and they also serve as mentors and advisors to our residents. The way they have performed at such a high level, especially as ED volumes have been so high over the past 6 months, is remarkable!
Last but not least, the group of people that truly make
my job the best in the world are our Emergency Medicine residents here at Regions! We are fortunate to recruit outstanding people to our program that are also outstanding doctors. They are such assets to our residency, our ED,
our hospital and the community we serve. Over the past year they have stepped up again to care for the sickest patients in the ED and our ICUs.

 CULLEN HEGARTY, MD
Program Director
Welcome to the 2021 HealthPartners Institute/Regions Hospital Emergency Medicine Residency Program’s Annual Report! There is an ongoing debate here at Regions as to who has the best job, and I am here to tell you that it is me! Why is being program director at Regions the best job—easy answer, because of the exceptional people that I get to work with day in and day out here in St. Paul.
This past year has proved to be more of a continuation
of 2020 than we all hoped it would be. I remember how excited everyone was to put 2020 in the rear-view mirror in January, but unfortunately COVID had other ideas and has really stuck around the whole year, affecting
our work and personal lives every day. Let me tell you how the exceptional people I work with continued to
run a top-notch residency and care for our community over this year.
Kristin Robb (Program Manager) and Amy Koonce (Program Coordinator) are the glue that keep
the program running. They provide leadership, administrative coordination, and support for the residency and residents. Day after day they have been here, in person, to not only get work done to keep
the program going but be here to check in with the residents. We are lucky to have them on our team!
