Everyone takes a unique journey to get to this point of their medical training—can you share with us your unique journey with your education, work history, and citizenship?
“My first job after immigrating to the United States was working as environmental staff in an ER. I found myself mesmerized by the organized chaos of trauma resuscitation. I knew then I wanted to remain working in healthcare but unsure as to what capacity. During my junior year of college,
I connected with an insightful academic advisor. Recognizing my potential, they guided me onto a premed track. In 2014, I gained lawful permanent residency in the United States, marking a crucial step towards my medical journey. I then worked at a local ER as a nurse assistant as I applied to medical school. Fast forward to 2023, I am now a US citizen and at the culminating stages of residency.”
What attracted you to Regions for your EM residency training?
“During my EM rotation, I was captivated by the supportive, collaborative, and conducive learning environment. There is a strong commitment to
a humanistic patient-centered approach which resonated deeply with me. It became evident
that this was the culture I wanted to cultivate my medical expertise in. Additionally, the resident’s dedication to both patient care and education, even amidst their demanding shifts, was awe-inspiring. Their intelligence, kindness, and humility left a lasting impression on me.”
Now in your final year, what have been your favorite parts about training at Regions?
“It has been incredibly gratifying to witness not only my personal professional growth but also
that of my fellow co-residents. My classmates
have evolved into more than colleagues — they
are now lifelong friends and an extended family. Moreover, the annual retreats and our time at SAEM were nothing short of epic. The shared laughter and unforgettable experiences have truly been the cherished gems of my residency training.”
