THE ENTHUSIAST
AECM STUDENT SPOTLIGHT :
FRESHMAN:
RACHEL VISSER
Agricultural Communication & Marketing
I grew up outside of Hutchinson, MN,
and was actively involved in 4-H and
FFA alongside my two sisters. I am also involved in the dairy royalty program
and this allowed me to share my passion for the dairy industry with others. This involvement in agriculture from a young age sparked a passion that eventually led me to attend the University of Minnesota.
I decided to major in ACM to continue advancing my communication skills and learning about new areas of agriculture. I enjoy the opportunities to network through the various clubs and classes within the major. All of the staff and faculty in the AECM program are super helpful and encouraging when it comes to making the major focus on what we are interested in.
My favorite part about being an AECM student is the community that is built within the major.
SOPHOMORE:
LIV VIESETH
Agricultural Communication & Marketing
I grew up on a dairy farm in Southeast Minnesota. Throughout my time
growing up, I was very active in 4-H and participated in FFA in high school as well. When choosing my major, I knew I wanted something creative. AECM lets me use
my creative skills to promote the world
of agriculture. I’m able to try out new forms of media and media channels
that I haven’t gotten to try before.
AECM also allows me to learn about
all areas of Ag, from Animal Science to Food Science. My favorite AECM class I have taken is AECM 3452 Digital Media Essentials for Agriculture, Food, and the Environment. This class explores different forms of media, like photography and videography. It helped me get my footing into what I will experience in the future putting these skills into my future job. The professor, Troy McKay does a really well job of letting us explore these types of media.
