SPRING INTERNSHIP RECRUITING
Although many companies
that have regular internship programs might already have filled their openings in the fall, there are still opportunities with some local companies. Check TalentLink regularly to apply for these opportunities.

BUILDING YOUR EXPERIENCE
Experiential Learning Project/ summer internship
Begin keeping a journal of STAR stories from Experiential Learning Program and your summer internship, and
update resume and LinkedIn throughout the program.

FALL FULL-TIME RECRUITING
Attend employer information sessions, site visits, and networking events; on-campus interviewing; search TalentLink for opportunities.
Note that international students’ fall recruitment timeline could start in
early summer in their home countries. Please see a coach to discuss home search strategy.

Make sure that your resume is up-to-date with any projects, case competitions, fall internships, etc.
Continue to apply for internships (Note: Most companies fill their internship positions in the fall, so there will be far fewer opportunities in the spring)
Sign up for the MSF Mock Marathon to get interview practice with employers and alumni
Attend Technical Interviewing workshop
Attend Career Fair Preparation Workshop and participate in the U of MN Career and Internship Fair (if applicable)
Attend workshop on job search strategy outside of on-campus recruiting
Meet with a career coach to develop internship search and networking strategy for spring semester—consider setting up regular meetings to check in on progress
Update resume and LinkedIn with Experiential Learning Project experience
Stay on top of external postings in TalentLink and networking contacts about internship opportunities
Use spring break to make a networking trip
Update LinkedIn with final version of Experiential Learning Project Stay active with a coach to help guide your search
Report all internship offers in TalentLink
Work with a career coach to evaluate and negotiate full-time offer from internship (Note: You do not need to accept offers on the spot). Don’t forget to report your offer in TalentLink.
Start updating your resume and LinkedIn profile with internship experience
Attend an in-person or virtual coaching appointment with a career coach (optional, but strongly encouraged if you are planning on participating in Fall OCR)

External job postings and just-in- time hiring opportunities increase
SUMMER
Complete internship
During your internship, document key projects, accomplishments, roles, and responsibilities
Connect with the GBCC if you have any questions or concerns about successfully navigating your internship experience
Stay in contact with companies that you are interested in interviewing with for full-time opportunities
AUGUST
SEPTEMBER Attend fall career fair and Company Information Sessions
Check TalentLink regularly to search for full-time opportunities and submit your resume
OCTOBER
Practice your interview skills in a Small Group Interview Practice session to ensure that your skills stay sharp
Meet with a career coach to develop job search and networking strategy for fall semester— consider setting up regular meetings to check in on progress
Check TalentLink regularly to search for full-time opportunities and submit your resume
Attend workshop on job search strategy outside of on-campus recruiting
File for OPT regardless if you have a job or not—plan to have an OPT start date of Jan 1
