  Specialty and Advanced Clinics
The School of Dentistry provides a range
of specialty services, including orthodontic, endodontic, periodontal, oral diagnosis/radiology, oral pathology, prosthodontics and oral and maxillofacial surgery. Patients with special needs also visit clinics that work with cleft lips and palates, facial dental anomalies, smoking cessation, temporomandibular joint/chronic facial pain and dental implants.
Faculty Clinics
In addition to their teaching endeavors, some faculty choose to practice in dental or orthodontic practices housed within the school but operating like a dental office outside the School of Dentistry.
Other clinics
Students and faculty also provide care at the University of Minnesota Physicians Dental Clinic, a comprehensive clinic for adults with underlying medical conditions or those who may need additional care, and the University of Minnesota Pediatric Dental Clinic, Made Possible by Delta Dental of Minnesota, where children who need additional care due to physical developmental disabilities seek dental care.
Outreach
A cornerstone of the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry’s mission, Outreach experiences take students outside the classroom and into community clinics. These experiences fulfill the School of Dentistry’s strong commitment to education and its mission of service.
In their last year of education, all students participate in an Outreach experience at one
of fifteen community care clinics or tribal care centers. These required experiences provide an opportunity for students to give back to their community while developing an understanding of the social responsibilities they will have as dental professionals, treat a diversity of patients with oral health care needs, enhance clinical skills, and engage in interprofessional learning.

“OUTREACH HAS BROADENED MY
 UNDERSTANDING OF THE NEED FOR
  DENTAL CARE. I SAW REAL-WORLD
PATIENTS WITH SITUATIONS I MIGHT NOT
SEE AT THE SCHOOL OF DENTISTRY, AND
IT REMINDED ME OF THE WORK I CAN
DO TO HELP MITIGATE THE DISPARITY IN
ACCESS TO ORAL HEALTH CARE.”
