COMMUNITY OUTREACH
COMMUNITY HEALTH RESOURCE FAIR
The Hormel Institute partnered with Mayo Clinic and several other organizations to host a Community Health Resource Fair. Mayo Clinic Health System’s Mobile Mammography provided free mammograms to those who are uninsured or underinsured. The event also offered free preventative health screenings and informa- tion about resources available in the community
COMMUNITY OUTREACH BOOTHS
The Hormel Institute had booths at events throughout the community and beyond. The booths included cancer prevention information, health screenings, educational activities and more at events such as:
• Taste of Nations
• 4th Ave Fest
• Minnesota State Fair
• Goldy vs. Cancer Day at the Science Museum of Minnesota
COMMUNITY ADVISORY BOARD
The Community Advisory Board provides recommendations and actions related to community engagement and educational opportunities in Mower County and Southeastern Minnesota related to the biomedical research, training and educa- tion happening at the Institute. Board members include: Chair Oballa Oballa; Chris Weis, Mower County Public Health; Sara Lee, Mayo Clinic; Dewey Schara, Austin Public Schools; Sara Salas-Ramirez, Parenting Resource Center; Laura Helle, Austin Arts; Trish Harren, Mower County; Jessica Vazquez, Mower County Extension; Catherine Haslag, Riverland Community College and Science Fair Mentoring; and Mary Nelson, Freeborn Mower Electric Cooperative.
OUR IMPACT
The Community Out- reach and Education team has engaged over 17,000 diverse individuals through our activities and events.
We host these programs thoughout the year with the mission to educate the community about operations at The Hormel Institute and within the larger scientific community, as well as to offer resources to improve health and wellbeing.
