   YOUNG SCIENTIST PROGRAM
The Hormel Institute launched the Young Scientist Program in partnership with Austin Public Schools. The program gives students in grades 6-8 who are interested in biomedical research and science to gain hands-on experience working with scientists in the labs. This program was made possible through a generous donation from Paul and Joanne Worlein and development of the new Education Fund. This new fund supports current and future education initiatives for student learning opportunities at The Hormel Institute.
EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCES
The Hormel Institute offered educational tours and experiences for groups from area schools and organizations. The students participated in
a variety of STEM-related activities, including liquid nitrogen experiments, straw- berry DNA extraction, viewing samples under microscopes, and career panels.
SCIENCE SATURDAY
The Hormel Institute launched the Science Saturday program, which allows families to pick up free kits that include supplies and instructions for completing a science experiment or activity at home.
FAMILY LEARNING DAY
In June, The Hormel Institute hosted Family Learning Day. The free event included science experiments and hands-on activities and like “Strollin’ Through the Colon” to learn about colorectal cancer prevention.
