When The Hormel Institute was founded nearly 80 years ago, Jay C. Hormel had a vision to conduct cutting edge research in his hometown of Austin, Minnesota, with scientists working collaboratively from the University of Minnesota, Mayo Clinic,
and beyond. Together answers were pursued that would lead to improved health and disease prevention.
Today that vision continues and expert research advances at The Hormel Institute due to the rapid evolution and acquisition of cutting-edge technology, including the Nobel-prize winning cryo-electron microscope, as well as through innovative methodologies, bioinformatics, and computational biology.
Discoveries at The Hormel Institute flourish from the intersections of science and technology and have opened new avenues for pursuing answers to the biggest health challenges we face. The future is exciting to contemplate, as lives are improved through better prevention and control over disease and health is enhanced and protected.
“What stands out about The Hormel Institute is its important focus on cancer, a disease that touches nearly everyone in some way, its relatively new focus on biofuels and potential for a reduced risk of
cancer, and its cutting edge expertise with the Cryo-EM microscope,
one of the most powerful electron microscopes in the world.”
U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar
