It is extraordinary to see how far donations from our community and supporters go at The Hormel Institute. Commu- nity-funded research turns new ideas into reality, allowing us to dive deep into important topics and offer postdoctoral fellowships that give new researchers a chance to push forward ideas that ignite real movement in science.
We have a vision to inspire discoveries that improve and extend human life. We’ve worked hard over the past year to use your gifts to the fullest extent to find new and better answers to cancer and other chronic diseases.
We are incredibly grateful for the continuous support of The Hormel Foundation, and thanks to them, 100% of every dollar donated to The Hormel Institute goes directly to research. We are among the few non-profit organizations in the country who can do this, and we applaud every generation of Hormel Foods employees who, through their hard work and success, help make this happen.

IMPORTANCE OF COMMUNITY-FUNDED RESEARCH
Exploring new and innovative ideas is made possible by grants from philanthropic and charitable support. Federal research grants have been steadily declining nationwide over the past several years. Funds raised in the community help fill this funding gap to keep propelling research forward. Community-funded seed grants allow scientists to gather preliminary data to make their grant projects more competitive on a national level. Many of our scientists’ research projects have gone on to receive additional grants thanks to the running start that our community gave them.
