   Undergraduate Physiology, continued
dentistry, pharmacy and physical therapy on November 20th for a discussion of health care careers and the challenges and opportunities for those typically underrepresented in these fields.
CLA has established a Pre-Health Sciences Advisory Board comprised of representatives from the administration, college and depart- mental advisors, career services and students. I represent our Human Physiology major and one of our undergraduates, Austin Heidl, is a student representative to the board.
Early in the spring term, UPS was able to hold an-
other blanket making event before Covid-19 sent us all home to shelter in place. Dr. Barnett and the officers continued to meet by Zoom and even the evaluation of new officer applica- tions were handled in virtual meetings. We have a mix of new and returning officers for the 2020-21 school year. Returning are Hannah Hochhalter & Lauren Davis who will serve as Co- Presidents. Sarah Merfled-Chacon returns for another year as Public Relations Chair. The new officers are Vice-President Emily Wagner, Communications Chair – Madison Oelke and Outreach Chair – Sam LeVoir. These officers are now plotting a course for virtual events for the fall 2020 semester.

A review of the academics for the major revealed that the number of Human Phys- iology majors on the Dean’s List is rising at faster rate than our increase in enroll- ment. The Spring semester ended with a record 120 students who qualified for this honor. Even more impressive is that the percentage of our majors on the Dean’s List has doubled over the past 5 years from 16% to 32% of the Human Physiol- ogy majors! We’d like to offer congratu- lations all of our students who earned this honor as well as Madeleine Carlene Berg as this year’s graduating senior with the highest cumulative GPA.
Dr. Lisa Anderson and I were interviewed for an article in APS publication The Physiologist Magazine on the state of under- graduate Physiology education. The article “The Undergradu- ate Physiology Boom” has been well received and we were surprised by receiving recognition on the cover of the May edition.
