ON THE COVER: ME and Industry
The University of Minnesota is fortunate to be situated in the center of a large metropolitan area where significant industry partners
are within a few miles of campus. Companies like Medtronic, 3M, Honeywell, and many more are headquartered in the Twin Cities,
and Minnesota is home to small startups and entrepreneurs whose success depends on access to good research and engineering talent. In addition, our faculty are connected nationally and internationally, and our robust research program for both undergraduates and graduate students results in coursework that involves projects
with companies all over the world. Mechanical engineers are involved
in almost every field, from designing toothbrushes to improving fighter
jets and everything in between. This newsletter covers a small selection of the work our department does with industry partners.
