Hannah Ramshak, a fourth-year student in mechanical engineering, was named to the 2023 UMN Homecoming Court. She is the current president of the University of Minnesota Chapter of Engineers Without Borders and has been a Welcome Week leader.
A message from the
DEPARTMENT HEAD
As I reflect on this fall edition, I’m struck by how much ground this department covers. When it’s time to gather content for the newsletter each semester, the challenge is always in narrowing it down, not in finding enough to talk about. The depth of our research projects and teaching subjects is impressive — all the way from our undergraduates to our alumni.
This newsletter theme is “ME and industry.”
One of the hallmarks of our department is our connections. Our students are highly sought-after for co-ops and
internships, and our graduates are often hired by top companies long before they leave our halls. Our faculty and researchers have changed the face of several fields through industry partnerships. These connections benefit both parties. I hope you’ll enjoy reading about the ways we help move industry to new discoveries, and the ways industry keeps academia moving forward.
