STUDY ABROAD highlight:
Sydney hendel
AECM students have thrived in and out of our program. We want to highlight those that have taken on outside opportunities that support their classwork.
Sydney Hendel, a junior from Caledonia, Minnesota studying Agricultural Communication and Marketing with a minor in International Agriculture had the opportunity to study abroad this past summer. She spent 10 weeks in both Copenhagen, Denmark and Stockholm, Sweden. The program she went through was DIS: Study Abroad in Scandinavia. During her time in Scandinavia she took three courses, Digital Media in Marketing, Climate Change and Glaciers, and Photography in Europe. Within two of these courses she traveled with her classes to Rekeyvik, Iceland and London, England. In her travels to Iceland she met several scientists who study the correlation between glaciers and volcanic activity in Iceland. Along with that, she climbed two glaciers and went into a man-made cave system in the Längjokull Glacier. In London, she visited several photography exhibits and met Wall Street Journal photographer Carlotta Cardana at her studio. Outside of class she traveled to Prague, Czech Republic with friends and Luxembourg City, Luxembourg to learn more about her family’s heritage.
Her study abroad experience was absolutely incredible. This experience helped her within the ACM major as she was able to work on her communication skills, specifically talking with the public about American agriculture. She made connections with people from all over the world by talking about her experiences growing up on a dairy farm.
Studying abroad definitely opened my eyes to the possibilities the ACM major has outside of the United States. Overall, I would highly recommend studying abroad. It is an experience that I will carry with me the rest of my life and one I will forever cherish.
