UST 1000: Learning in
Community
‘Learning in Community’ facilitates integration of each student into the UMD community by building a classroom environment where individuality and community are explored as an inextricably linked pair.
All sections of UST 1000 are limited to 25 students, which allows for greater community building between you and other students, as well as with the faculty member teaching it. This class
is a place where you can get answers to questions of all kinds. Most sections also include a peer leader who serves as a mentor both inside and outside the classroom.
The Key Topic Seminar courses contain the same elements as UST 1000 that are embedded in a 3-credit, content- driven course that also fulfills one of UMD’s Liberal Education Program requirements, either Global Perspectives (GP) or Cultural Diversity (CD). These courses are restricted to incoming first-year students, and are also capped at 25 students.
