Academic Expectations
UMD is committed to providing students every possible opportunity for learning and personal growth. This commitment can only be fulfilled in an environment of trust, honesty, fairness, respect, and responsibility.
A syllabus is provided for every class
and includes details such as the course description, graded course components, and instructor class policies, attend class regularly, participate in class discussions, and ask questions. Faculty members are expected to set clear guidelines, give honest and timely feedback, and uphold standards.
Earning a degree from the University
of Minnesota Duluth is a respected accomplishment. It signifies that you have met all of the requirements and learned the body of knowledge neces- sary for the discipline you choose.
The value of a degree is greatly
diminished when grades are not achieved honestly.
Student Conduct
The Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution (OSCCR) educates students about behavior and decision- making in order to foster a safe and healthy community in which academic success can occur. The Board of Regents Student Conduct Code establishes academic and behavioral expectations for students.
As a student, you are a dual-citizen of the University as well as the greater local community. For this reason, the Student Conduct Code applies both on and off campus.
If you’re reported for a possible Student Conduct Code violation, you’ll meet with a hearing officer who will listen to you, make a decision, and provide you with an opportunity to make things right or to learn new skills that will benefit your overarching goals at the University and beyond. You can find the Student Conduct Code online at z.umn.edu/Conduct.
Conflict Resolution
As a student, you may encounter conflict within important relationships. OSCCR provides tools for students to peacefully and effectively resolve disputes. Trained mediators will individually coach you through a plan to resolve a conflict on your own, or provide a setting where it is possible for individuals to come together and share their concerns, be heard, and come to a workable solution of their
own choosing.
You can request help from a professional mediator online at z.umn.edu/umd-conflict-mediation.
