ACADEMIC LIFE: ADVISING
One of the most noticeable transitions you’ll make in coming to college is within academics. College courses may have higher expectations than what you experienced in high school. Things like the pace of the cours- es and time required outside of the classroom can be a big adjustment. Everyone needs support to succeed, and successful students seek out the resources available to them from the start. Staff, faculty and adminis- trators are here to guide you throughout your experience. Take the time to find the resources and people who will support you.
Academic Advising
As a University of Minnesota Duluth student, you were admitted directly into a specific college/academic unit.
The staff and faculty in each college are here to assist you in your academic transition and are eager to help you succeed. Academic advising at UMD is a partnership that will help you achieve your academic goals.
Each college provides advising for students to help with academic planning and progress. In addition,
the advisors in your college can provide support and guidance with general college life concerns, so get to know your advisor and utilize their assistance.
During your Orientation, Advisement, & Registration, you will be instructed on how to sign up for your virtual Advise- ment & Registration appointment. This is where you will receive information on what courses to take and register for your first term courses
