Dr. Stephen Katz retires – celebrating a tremendous record of excellence
After 35 years of outstanding commit- ment to excellence at the University of Minnesota Medical School, Dr. Stephen Katz retired in June 2021. Dr. Katz was a master educator in the classroom – students would often talk in the hall- ways after class about the vibrant class and that they did not want to miss the next class! Dr. Katz served IBP as the Director of Education, Associate Direc- tor of Graduate Studies and Director of Graduate Studies. Dr. Katz was awarded every teaching award possible from the medical school, dental school, and uni- versity. He won these awards with such frequency he was awarded the Life- time teaching award and then banned from future competitions so others might have a chance to win! In honor of Dr. Katz’s exemplary teaching, the Dr. Stephen Katz Excellence in Education Award was created and the inaugural re- cipient of the award is Dr. Lisa Carney Anderson. Thank you, Dr. Katz for your exceptional dedication to IBP and the University!
